The reverse lights on my 79 f250 wont light, the bulbs are fine, no current arriving at the light socket. Does anyone know what wire it is coming up from the conduit under the bed so I can verify the correct one is hooked up? Color Codes? Thanks.
Yes, replacing the neutral safety switch attached to the transmission solved my problem. It also controls power to the backup lights when put in reverse. New NSS switches run from $15 to $80, depending on where they are purchased. I got a mismarked nss on e-bay for $15.
Trying cleaning it first and look for broken wire.
The process is remove the NSS from the trans.
Clean it in this order with:
Varsol
Lacquer thinner
With part wrapped in cloth ,Blow it out with compressed air
Electrical cleaner in spray can.
Apply electrical part lube and work it into switch.
Re-install NSS to harness and test.
If it works, Re-install it with adjustment by spec.
Thanks all will try that out. I just got done changing the dif fluids and transfer case, man does used transfer case oil smell horrible. The previous owner of this truck did ZERO maintainance, I am paying for it now trying to get it healthy. Thanks for the posts.
