I just got Jody's reprogrammed PCM and inserted it. Well, the 01 Excursion just cranks and the "theft" light flashes much faster than before. No glow plug light or anything. OK. Swapped back the old PCM. Same problem. Any ideas? Disconnected batt but no joy. I don't think it is Jody's PCM but there might be something with the anti-theft crap. Thanx

I'm thinking the anti-theft system might need a reset. Disconnecting the battery
and having the light do a special flash may alert a mechanic to reset it. Losing battery power shouldn't disable the anti theft system. My theory...could be wrong.

What light to do a special flash? I will disconnect the battery. What next?
I have the Edge evolution programmer and each time i set it to a different setting my anti theft thing does the same thing .......i let it set for about ten minutes and try about 15 times to start till the anti theft thing flashes slowly then it will start....... Big Ed
Well, this is with the old PCM back in place. It didn't work before but I just started it like nothing happened. Too bad Jody is out of town. Is it any different for an Excursion as opposed to an F250 or F350?
Maybe the connection on the pcm wasn't quite right before or the pcm relay tripped. I would try the new one again now that you got it to run with the old one. Maybe disconnect the batteries during the install so nothing shorts out.
Edit:I have read somewhere that no power to the pcm will cause some anti-theft systems to flash rapidly. Also no WTS light is sympton of no power to pcm.
Good luck.

Tomorrow with more light, I will try it again
As to the PCM, it was with "no power" when I left it and when I returned an hour or so later, it was working again,
I had this with the superchips on my 01 Ex. It is caused by the PATS and what you should try is to turn the key on and wait (1-2 minutes) until the flashing slows down or stops. Then turn ignition off. Then turn ignition back on and the light should flash slowly (normally) and you should be able to crank. This is printed in the SC manual for vehicles with PATS like ours.
THIS ENTIRE PROCEDURE IS CRITICAL: Ensure this procedure is started with the KEY
COMPLETELY OUT OF IGNITION.
This technique will only work on a Ford Diesel Excursion
1 Ensure that the key is OUT OF THE IGNITION to begin.
2 Insert the key into the ignition.
3 Turn the ignition key ON, DO NOT START THE VEHICLE.
4 Look at the Theft light on the dash. The Theft Light will be blinking rapidly…approx 3 blinks per second, indicating Theft.
5 After a period of 30-45 Seconds, the Theft Light will blink slowly and /or go out.
6 Now, turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition. DO NOT TRY TO START THE VEHICLE.
7 Pause 10 seconds with the key out of ignition.
8 Insert the key into ignition.
9 Turn the key ON, but DO NOT START THE VEHICLE.
10 Look at the Theft light on the dash. The Theft Light will be blinking slowly…1 blink per second
(normal mode).
11 After the Wait to Start light goes out, the customer can then crank and start the vehicle normally.
Tried doing it first after it has run and then next with the power disconnected but maybe if I leave it alone for an hour or so like yesterday it might work. Any ideas in the meantime are welcome.
