autometer tach hookup problem

autometer tach hookup problem

i just bought a new autometer monster tach for my truck and i got it all mounted and wired but it won't work. when i turn the key the pointer moves a little but then stops.i wa told to look at the green wire and make sure it is on the negative side of the coil and it is.i have tried everthing to get it to work but it still only flickers when i start it up.

Undo do the insulation(tape?) on your power connections, and with a voltmeter, see if you have 12 volts with the truck running.

are you talking about the red or green wires at the coil

You should have a power wire hooked to a key on source just like a radio.

You should also have a ground wire that you bolt to a good grounded piece of metal under the dash somewhere.

You will probably have another power wire for the the dial light in the tach so it will light up at night.

Then you have the green signal wire which goes to the coil -.

i have the red wire tied into my key switch that goes to the solenoid

green to the green wire off the coil

white to the dash lights

and black is grounded to one of my intake bolts on the motor

i am going to try testing the 12 volt source tonight

That doesn't sound correct. The only thing at the solenoid is power all the time and power only in start mode.
