timeing off 180 degrees?

ive got a 351W with an HEI distributor and i noticed the timeing mark is on the wrong side. when im setting the timeing, do i have to crank the engine around till the timeing mark appears in the little window and at TDC (pressure comeing out of the #1 spark plug hole)?? or do i have to turn the distributor 180 degrees and change the wire order?

Remember that for a 4-stroke engine, your piston will hit TDC twice for every complete cycle and likewise the timing pointer will hit the TDC mark two times for every complete cycle. But, the rotor in the distributor will only rotate one full time for every complete cycle. So, you not only need to know where TDC is but also which is the compression stroke and which is the exhaust stroke. On the compression stroke, your rotor will be passing by the lead on the cap for the piston in question. On the exhaust stroke the rotor will be 180 degrees out from that lead. As long as you know your rotor is pointing at 180 degrees, you can just pull the distributor up to disengage the gears and rotate the distributor shaft then drop it all back in.
