ok i have a 1969 ford f250 4x4 with a 390 and im gonna be building the 390 soon. i have a gran torino with a 351 cleveland. and what i wanna do is take the cleveland from the torino and put it in my truck so i still have somethin to drive while im building my 390. i know im gonna need a bellhousing. and im pretty sure im gonna need different motor mount towers. so what year trucks could i pull the towers out of. that way i can put them on my truck and use the cleveland.
I think you're going to run into a lot of grief and unforeseen costs with this swap. Mostly since it's short term.
Are the transmissions both manual, auto, or one of each?
Keep things like flywheel, flexplate, clutch, clutch linkage, torque converters, exhaust system, radiator outlet locations and engine wiring in mind.
A swap will likely have more down time than it would take to rebuild the 390. To minimize down time you'll be better off finding a second FE engine for the rebuild.
I have a 390 PI in my garage. It also has a FMX bolted to it. It is located in Ft Lauderale Fl. Shoot me an email if you are interested. This motor will need a rebuild but it is a good base.
