Not so bad.
almost all highway. Unloaded to NH and loaded back. I got 13 mpg out of my
2002 F-250 Superduty 4x4 V-10 Six speed with 4.30 gears. Average speed was 70 mph. Not that bad for a truck that supposed to be such a gas hog!

But, it IS a gas hog compared to a Honda Civic
Or the jeep you were dragging

This is a key point, the 4.30 gears. I bet you have stock sized tires too!
More proof that under-gearing a Ford modular is not a good idea.
I does appear that the manual trannys do a bit better than the autos...I got the six speed...
By the way, I am not sure the Jeep would do much better on MPG....we had a 98 Cherokee with an inline six shooter that never got over 11 in town and 14 on the hiway....NOT towing a darn thing....
Thanks for the great report.
I would also not call the V10 a gas hog. If one wants to call any engine a gas hog...look no further than the 8.1L Cheby. (gulp!)

Dang davzog..you still wait'n to huh..
We my friend are in the same boat, love the truck, but im also second guessing. I Got to take one for a drive, the other day (CC 4X4 auto) and reset the trip computer and on board avg fuel ecomony. drove it about 20 miles..some city, some highway and it averaged 10MPG.
And I only got on it once. When merging on to the highway. But man was/is that thing a nice ride...
I truly dont know what to do either.... the fuel is gonna kill me, and I cant see buying it and leaving it set just for joy rides every once in a while or if I need it for something.
I may just opt for the F150 and see how it does.
Who knows....
Mine FINALLY came in today...looks great and as soon as I sa it I decided to go with it...heck with the gas...it came down $.04 a gallon today....maybe it will be under a dollar by next month...yea, right.
Seriously, I was it to replace the diesel I hate and it will be primarily for towing the 5th wheel...diesel never got over 11 mpg and several V10 owners I have talked to say they get 9....2 mpg won't hurt.
For daily driving I have a 94 TOwn car that gets a true 23 mpg back and forth to work, though I will probably take the V10 at LEast onec a week.
My wife and I discussed it over coffee tonight and we decided that the V10 is the way we should go...actually, she doesn't care what we drive just so long as she gets to sit by the camp fire in the RV park...
I won't get to pick it up until late next week, but I will sure post an update on mpg after a few hundred miles....
Can't wit to get rid of that oil burner....
