I made an interesting discovery when I went to replace the alernator on my '83 today. My truck has EFI exhaust manifolds on it and when I went to take out the pivot bolt for the alternator, it hit the manifold and wouldn't come all the way out. I wound up having to take two of the three bolts out that hold the alternator bracket on and rotate it towards the radiator to get enough clearance for the pivot bolt. I just figured I would let everyone know that way they aren't as surprised as I was.
I ran into this same problem when I did the EFI manifold swap. My fix was to install a longer alt. pivot bolt with a nylock nut. The nut is on the header side of the bolt. The stock alt bracket has a tapped hole, so I drilled this out for the new longer screw. Now it's e-z to swap out the alt.

I did the same thing when I went EFIs, I warped the front manifold playing in deep water. Now I have Hedmans!
