Just had to share this with you guys... in my company dodge dualie and trailer barely loaded w/ dirt I couldn't get the heap to tow up hill, down hill or even out of it's own way. same trip and load in my PSD and it didn't even feel like there was anything in tow, not to mention the people behind me were happier! I had to switch trucks miday because the time job to job was killing me.
I wish it was the parking brake. The dodge is a 97, my trucks a 01 350, and i agree with strokin' scumins it is. we've had the dodge since new and it's only at 100k, my psd is at 50k. needless to say i feel like i'm driving a cadillac after work days are thru!
guthrie is right about that. Besides, the 97 PSD only had 210 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. These are kind of paltry by today's standards, certainly much less than the (stock) 275/525 ratings of your '01.
Now, if you try an '01 Dredge with a Cummins, you would find a world of difference between it and the '97. That is NOT to say it would outrun your PSD! As far as factory power goes, I think the Ford Navistar engine (including pre-PSD) has always been a step or two ahead of the Cummins.
Why, I don't know. Especially when you realize you can take less money to the aftermarket and get more power back from the Cummins. Hell, an entire SET of Cummins injectors costs about the same (or less) than a single Powerstroke injector.
i've had the newer cummins as well but nothing compared to my psd. my neibors truck is in the hand full of scummins i've ever been even remotely empressed with. i know the scummins is a great engine, but i'd never trade, or take one for cheap$. i've been driving this truck for 2 solid years and while reliable it's a dog. our other 01 w/ utiliy body and double the miles smokes it hands down, and my personal 01 does even better.
form a reliability stand point and cheaper to maintain the cummins has it hands down. power wise in todays markey hte cummins has more torque. my father and i pull the same loads and we both have basicly the same truck. i have the ford and he has the cummins. he gets better fuel mileage but i can tow bit faster up hill. overall the two truck are neck and neck. if i could have my way i would get a ford truck and a cummins engine. bottom line
an inline engine with the same displacement and volumetric efficiency of that of an engine of a V design will always have more torque than the V engine. hard to explain and i dont know how to, but i do know that's a fact.
Correct me if I am wrong, Doesn't Ford own a controling interest in the Cummin's Company? and if I remember right, Doggie Dodge is looking to use either a Cat or a Detroit Diesel after I think 08' when Ford plans on putting the Cummins in the F450 and up.
Again correct me if I am wrong.
Oh and I would love to have the Cummin's power plant with 03' F350, I like my PS but the Cummins of the same year is a better performer by a smiggin. But I do belive the newer 6.0 PS is the NUTS......sorry poker term...Nuts means the best.

you should stand to be corrected. cummins is in for much longer than that, especially since they just hit the market with the new cab and chassis line with the new 6.7 cummins. and ford ones nothing in cummins.
