Clutch and Flywheel
I have a 68' F-250 with a 390 and 4-speed tranny. I know that the clutch is slipping and needs replacing. I also noticed a high pitched whistleing noise, almost like what a supercharger sounds like, I supsected it to be the clutch cause it only happens when I am driving; is this just the clutch slipping? I have a new clutch, pressure plate, ect.. ready to go but I cannot seem to find a new flywheel. I know that they can be resurfaced but if it can't be, where do I go to get a new one? All I can find are used ones that are in crappy condition. I managed to find a Hays flywheel on the internet for about $400, but I would like to find one a bit cheaper if possible since I just spent $300 for the clutch. Input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

That whistleing noise might be the pilot bushing. As far as purchasing a new flywheel, I'd call the dealer first on a part like that. You might be surprised. Sometimes they are right in line and sometimes cheaper than a chain store because they've had the part in storage for such a long time, they're happy to get rid of it!

You should be able to get your flywheel surfaced with no problems. I would look for a clutch shop to get the best job. Last time that I bought a clutch, they did my flywheel for free.
