Load Ranges

What do the load ranges mean on tires and what are the numbers that go with the letters.

As the letters increase, for the same sizes, the tires can carry more weight and inflated to a higher pressure. Usually, one higher load range means 2 extra plys. (at least from B to F) The "numbers" can be tire size or max load/pressure.
