My 2001 F250 V10 shuddered for the first time while towing. It only happens when Im under a load going up a hill and reach the rpm level to shift back into OD. Any ideas? Thinking about a shift kit.
Have you changed fluid regularly? I am not sure on your model but usually for towing you want to change fluid about every 12K miles. This helps keep the fluid in good condition so the OD Clutch doesn't slip and it allows you to inspect for debris.
A fluid change may be all that is required. If you have a lot of miles, your clutch may be getting worn and will need a new TC to fix it.
Don't let shudder continue too long or you will start to overheat the fluid and cause damage.
Might be other things but I am not an expert and haven't had the other problems like shift position sensor(MLPS?) and I even think I have read that the throttle position sensor can affect this.
