98' Malibu
Brother's got a 98' malibu with issues. Put in a new water pump, gaskets and the like, retimed it by the book and now it won't idle. Rechecked the timing 4 times. Replaced the IAC valve with new. No codes, No MIL.....WHATS THE DEAL??? 2.4L, auto, 80,000 miles.... Don't know what to do. HELP!!!!!!

C'mon, Guys..someone must have a suggestion, or an idea as to whats up with this beast. I know this a Ford site, but I thought I'd just ask anyway. (I don't like the car either, but he's my brother)

What are the issues?
You put new gaskets in...like head gaskets? I hear the torque-to-yield business with those gets some people and the engine runs rough after they are changed until they are torqued down properly.

Never removed the heads...Replaced the water pump(pita), new chain guides, new timing cover gasket, read the manual over and over, timed and retimed, just won't idle..starts up fine cold, idles down as it warms up, then dies when put in gear. Can drive as long as you keep your foot on the gas, and goes like it should when you stomp on it. Idles very rough, but NO backfire, either exhaust or back up throttle body.. Did'nt remove anything we did'nt have to, been over and over this engine looking for something...NO MIL, NO CODES!!!!!
