Extended Warranty?

BTW, my truck's at the dealer. Getting it tomorrow. WOOHOO!
Also, no I won't be getting the extended warranty. It is a gamble. They are gambling that your vehicle will not need as much warranty repair as the policy costs, and you are gambling that you will come out on the winning end because your truck will need major repairs. They have the data to back it up, and they are not in the business of losing money on extended warranty contracts.
The Fords that I have purchased new in the past 20 years have not been problem children. Specifically my '97 Contour, '97 F250 7.3l, '00 F150 and '02 Explorer have been remarkably reliable. I sincerely hope my '06 F350/V10 will follow course!

The split the dealer gets may be variable, the MBI contracts I sold, and I sold a jillion of em paid us 50%, of which I got 21%. If we discounted ours obviously we got paid less, but the underwriter always got their flat price, which was 50% of suggested retail.
Health insurance limits are usually fixed at a $1,000,000 cap, that's a far cry from a $5,000 motor. Health care costs can bankrupt a guy, a busted tranny usually won't. But that being said, I do understand what you're saying, and don't entirely disagree with you.
I guess my disdain comes from a hatred of the ins companies in general. They make the rules, we pay, and pay, and pay and the one time we have to file a claim we get dropped from the ins company or they double our rates. This is from the same companies that sell MBI's.
Even outside ins co's contracts are honored at most garages, provided you jump through the required hoops. And God forbid you don't tip toe the line and do exactly as the fine print says, or you're out the repairs, plus the cost of the policy. And if you'll look at your Ford service contract, it's underwritten by someone, Ford farms it out and makes a buck.
For the few that ever need to use it, it's surely a good thing, but for all of us who never do, we're paying for the guy next to you w/the busted transmission.
100% agree on the "Insurance company" warranties.........in fact, our owner wanted us to sell the Western General garbage. I would only sell the Ford ESP at nearly double the dealer cost.
That being said, the FTE bunch always seems to be a well informed bunch...I can't see a dealer making a whole bunch on us.
The only reason I bring up health insurance is simply that "I" find it silly to use the reasoning not to buy something because "they're making money" on it. (I know you said you understood, just me being ****)
I have not used the ESP on the majority of my Fords.....BUT when I have used it, the bills were huge; Super Duty trans, Turbocoupe motor, 5.0 Mustang motor etc....
Not broken even but used the warranty nonetheless;
broken sway bar and throw out bearing '97 Cobra (actually may have made out on that one)
2 window regulators on Marauder..........still 25K left.
Sorry for being redundant, but I believe the ESP helped sell my '97 Cobra....the buyer was ecstatic to have a used car with a full years warranty left.
I've got feelers out to sell the Marauder (dang Polarbear is pushing me to buy a Vette..
) One guy that's kinda serious........one of his first questions was, "Does it have a warranty?" General Info: The only reasons to buy the Ford plan from the begining is to save the $100 surcharge and to be reimbursed for 5 days rental car which is NOT included in the original 3-36,000.
I wish I had a crystal ball......I'd love not to blow the $$$ but like I said, $20-$30 a month aint gonna kill me and could possibly save a bunch......kinda like health insurance.....

And reailzed not everyone is going to take their own tranny out and either rebuild it themselves or order a pre-built bullet-proof model and install it

One HUGE negative on having a car under warranty is the fear of modding the car.
The Lightning is still bone stock........simple set of pulleys would put it close to Vette territory at the strip . Believe it or not, I haven't bought the ESP yet!!
The Marauder is BEGGING for a Trilogy S/C and the whole works....ESP good till 75,000K...
My ZX12 gives me the adrenaline rush I need........but the wife isn't all that comfy @ a 160+ on the back of a bike!!...
Leaves the Vette..........or maybe the Shelby 500, but the Mustang is going to be as expensive as the Vette for at least a few months (year?)
Of course with fuel doing what it's doing..........a dang Kia may be in the future...

It's not just that.........even if you have the time/talent/money, do you want to HAVE to wrench on your semi-new vehicle.
I still have a 1/2 done '69 Bronco and a 1/4 done Faux '70 BOSS 302 that I'm procrastinating on...
for a c6 i would want the z06 option
The Z06 is the pinnacle............but I'm not convinced the $20k is worth the extra 100HP and the arguably less civilized/quiet ride.

i hear you but i was 18 when i purchased that 63 vet and paid just over 4.5k for it at dealer cost since i worked for konner chevy at the time. kept that car and a 95 point body off 57 nomad till mid 2005. and got good $$'s for both as the nomad had factory ac.
