I just want to share, that my 460 F250 4x4 C-6 3:55 gears after changing the timing chain to a Cloyes TRUE street roller and advancing it 4 degrees past TDC.
I just pulled 10,000#s 300 miles. and before on the same roads I got 4.5 MPG to 5.5 MPG. The other day I got 5.6 MPG to 6.8 MPG. That's a big difference. Again same roads same trailer, both pulls I used acetone also. I increased the acetone 1 oz/10 gals this time, The power curve was really different for the better. I pulled from Bullhead City to US 95 about 12 miles 6 percent held 45 MPH in second, before I would have to go into first at my slowest point.
don't be sorry for posting your info, it's good info. You have just noticed one of the most annoying things on FTE and any other forum and that is the continues asking of the same question, but if your info stops even one person from having to ask again then it was worth the time and space.
no it's actuallypretty close to the same as degrees, if you figure flat at 0 degrees, and vietical at 90 degrees it's only off by 10%, so it would actually be 5.4 degrees. May not seem like much on paper but it feels like alot in a vehicle.

Just havent been anywere grades are listed on hills. Grew up mostly in PA. Wonder what sizze tires your running kermy
Now that you have gotten that much inprovement You may be tempted to try some outher things lol. I have ben doing some reserch and working on a 460 for my moterhome. Simular application since it will be pulling a heavey load all the time. One thing that I am interested in trying is a low stall torque converter from TCI it is supose to stall at about 1200 rpm and have less slipage than stock. I beter get back out side and get some work done rather than setting on hear .

turbo2256d, I started at 3100 ft the first of two 6% grades took me to about 5000 ft in 7 miles, the second was 12miles long I traveled from 3100 ft to 5500 ft down to 2600 ft in 350 miles. I was real pleased with how much better the truck ran not to mention the addtional mileage.
WILDBILL308, Yea, I have been looking at the tow converter by TCI in Jegs. I have to change heads one of these days because of a couple of broken exhaust bolts that are broken inside the head, I've tried heating only to spider the bolt hole. I plan to buy stock heads and clean the humps out, then go with headers. This mileage increase was with a 4160 Holley 600 CFM .622 Maxijets and 6.5 PV. BLK secondary spring.

I hav heard of people using a torch to blow out a broke bolt but don't think I would try it on my heads . I have seen the use of a ESD (electric spark discharge) machine to cut the broken bolts out but not maney places have them. When you by headers I would recomend Thorleys as they are bilt for low end torque and that is what you need for towing.
What speed and rpm were you runing on your trip?
