help with tach

Im stumped on this one... The sunpro tach in my 70 f100 has lost its mind today. When accelerating or hold a steady speed it bounces all over the place, but the engine is runnig smooth, when decelerating it seems to give a good reading.
It worked before so first thing in my head....bad tach. So I swap with another tach I had laying around.. same problem. Maybe a short somewhere so I re wire the it completely...no change. Is it possible the coil(5 months old) is the problem?
Any help is welcome

Do you have any other vehicles you can try the tachs on?

Keven, I suspect the hot wire to the tach is shorting out and loosing power. The bad place could be ahead of your new wire.

does your truck have points I had the same problem look under the distributor cap and see if there is a short wire going to one part of the distributor to the other side see if it is broken or something replace it if it is that fixed my problem hope it will help you

yeah I went and put new point in it new spark plugs and it was driving me crazy I went to ride around the block in my little bitty town and it wouldn't even make it around the block I think mine had gotten a little worse than yours yeah change all that stuff and come to find out it was a little wire that I ended up making for the price of nothing.
