Bad Gas Mileage?

I got an estimate of my gas mileage, I'm getting 10.36 mpg. Is this bad for a 300, 1bbl, C6?. The air filters clean, put new spark plugs in it when I did an oil change about 300 miles ago.

What else can I do to achieve better gas mileage?

Well for starters, if you keep your foot out of it, you should get better mileage. A vacuume gauge should help tell you when you are over-doing the gas. Are you running wide tires? The ideal tire is a tall, skinny tire (make sure you get your speedometer recalibrated if you do to help make your MPG accurate). I have an '91 F-150 with a 4.9L 5-speed and I get 13mpg. But that's when I haul 1.5 ton of gravel in the bed while towing a 4 ton cow trailer.

Your truck was rated by the EPA at 16 mpg when new, so depending on condition, you're probably looking at 13-15 average. Search around the forum, there's been alot of tips lately (I wonder why??)

Cheque your Timing both Engine & Distributor, Carb. Needs Rebulding,Trans Slipage, Dragging Brakes, Clogged Exhaust Pipe/Muffler/Cat.

1st & fore most make this Engine Breathe, Install an Offenhauser "DP" Intake w/ a Holley 390, Melling Torque Cam, 2-into-2 Header.

I think for the time being (Two or Three weeks when I have some paychecks saved) I'll go ahead and buy new headers, and let it breathe a little better. I'll go and get a Vacum gauge whenever I can and intall that.

wouldnt the EFI manifolds help too..i have a question about those too...what side LH or RH do i use on my 300?

That is the manifolds from a later model 300 six, same as yours, but has fuel injection. You can get them from a salvage yard pretty cheap. It has two, each one for three cyls., much better flow.

So how do you mount the stock 1 barrel to the EFI intake manifold?
Don't tell me I have to buy something else. I'm not looking for a "money pit"!

Just had to take my truck to the shop. Somethings wrong with the carb and I couldn't figure it out....Four month old carb, let my mom borrow the truck yesturday/today, comes back dying at ever stop, gulping gas and not wanting to start.
