I put it in the ashtray in my truck until I can't close the ashtray anymore. Then I transfer it to a big water bottle. But, since I can generally pay for everything with a debit card these days, I don't tend to have much change.
I try to hold onto the coins, and use them for later purchases. If there get to be too many, I leave half on the dresser. Once a bunch of pennies builds up, I put 'em in a coffee can. When THAT fills up, I roll 'em up and take 'em to the bank.
I agree, it's time to abolish pennies. Not because they cost more to make than their "worth," but because they are nothing but a nuisance.
I eliminate pennies when they are recieved or just keep them in my pocket and save them for my grandmother, she likes to save them. The rest of the change used to go in my ashtray but now goes in my daughters piggy bank, this includes all coins and loose dollar bills left in my pocket.
I would love to see pennies go away, but I don't want to see the tax increase they would probably use to do it.
The thing that annoys me the most though is that stupid 9/10 of a cent they still use at the gas station to "trick us" into thinking the gas is cheaper. That should have gone away 20 years ago if not more. If gas is $3.00 a gallon don't act like you're doing me a favor and giving it to me for $2.999.
every afternoon the pocket change goes into a 1/2 gallon beer mug. every 6 months i run it through the free coin-star machine at the bank, and it pays the $725 insurance bill, with a few bucks left over.
The other half gets put into a milk bottle.
When that fills up I put it in a electronic coin sorter and hit the switch.
Then I roll them and take them to the bank and put that money plus the bottle return money into a holiday account.
Now you know how we got to Seattle and back last year.
For my pennies we put them in an old moonshine jug and keep saving up. With the other change in my pockets I save to use in the soda/snack machines at work.
Wow! what a coincidence about this, after one year at university, i had a total of $65.00 in loose change, which is going with my brothers $40 for the year, along with all of our liqour points to buy a keg for tomorrow night (it is the last day of finals!) Usually though it goes in an empty Texas Mickey and I use it for my truck.
