For the past few months my 94 4.0 2x4 explorer has been UNDER heating. In cold weather I can drive at 70mph for hours with the temp guage staying on C outside of the "normal" range. In warm to hot weather it barley gets inside the "normal" range after driving for hours. 3 weeks ago I threw the belt and the temp guage shot straight up to H so I know the guage works. Is this something I should be concerned about? I'm about to drive from virginia to colorado and I'm not sure what to do. Replacing the radiator and thermostat doesn't seem that hard to do. What do you think is going on? She has 261,000 miles on her and runs great (knock on wood) should I even mess with it? Thanks
Mike
Maybe. Explorer has a o-ring seal. No problem changing the stat. But they usually fail on the hot reading side. I run a 180 stat in my 93 - never has a problem entering closed loop EFI operation.
