I need help re-installing my exhaust manifolds damn things don't want to line up on all the holes is there any tricks in getting these damn manifolds back on... I got really frustrated trying to put them back on wow and had to give up for the night....!!! By the way this is on a 1992 Ford F-150 302EFI..
You may have to bore out a couple of the holes. You'll notice that some are probably already larger than others. A quick run-through with a drill bit and you should be back in business. Then, start in the center and work your way outward.
You are experiencing manifold curl. It's caused by the extreem heat the manifolds experience. While on the head they are held in position by the bolts. Once unbolted, there is nothing to fight the tension so they curl slightly. I thought is was crazy until it happened to me as it's happening to you. Ream the holes and you will be OK. Good luck.
I would go with some headers but I really don't want to spend that much on the truck at this time might be worth it I guess.... If I go with headers I want some that won't blow the gaskets out everytime... Will felpro gaskets work just fine with headers? Another thing, if I bore out the holes a little bigger will it hurt the manifolds any?
under 200 bucks if I remember correct for the shortys. I used the gaskets that came with it, they seem fine with no problems for 2 yrs. now. I used good grade 8 12pt. sm. head bolts. for more room and re-torque after few days of driving. As far as the stock cast headers, I have never had to drill out larger holes before, either got lucky with stock ones going back on (not warped) or put new headers/exhaust system usually on anyhow. If going to drill stock ones, then I would think next size up bit or so, and drill slow speed w/ sharp bit, and some lube. Good luck. Others may have more experience drilling cast material and can help.
Yea, the summit headers I got were about 140 or so and fit fine with just a little tweaking. I'd def get the headers, makes a world of difference in power and sound.
