Not sure if this is normal or not but I had to ask. I have a 2000 F350 CC 4x4 7.3L, I hooked up my prediator and out of curiosity I looked at real time data the part that shows each cylinder at idle it looks like one bank has activity and the other half of the cylinders show 0 activity. When you drive it shows no activity on any cylinders. Just wandered why at idle half the cylinders show acitvity. Thanks for any answers.
That's the cylinder contribution test. What it's showing is a percentage of rpm drop per cylinder. The weakest ones register the highest percentage rate. Don't worry about anything under 2%.
Looks like I need to do some more exploring of the data reading. I didn't know it could do that.
It's a very powerful tool if you know how to use it.
I put it to good use last week. I just put in my set of injectors from Beans and one of them had a problem with not firing at slight throttle settings. Plus it would sort of half miss at idle. Engine rocking and everything. And the EGT reading was unusually low under load. With my pyrometer probe on the driver's side of the engine that pretty much narrowed it down to one of the four on that side, but which one???
Plug in the Predator and select Diagnostics, then real time data, then diesel fuel, then show all. You can log it if you want for viewing later. At the bottom of the next screen you'll see each cylinder rpm drop in a % value. #4 was much higher in percent than all the rest. I saw 17% at it's worst.
From there it became a simple matter of pulling the left valve cover, swapping that one injector out and put it all back together. Fixed.
If I didn't have that cylinder contribution test to go on, I would have had to pull both valve covers and alternatly disconnect each injector one by one until I found the offending injector and then replace it. A time consuming and messy job with the engine running and no valve covers installed. Yuck!
I don't have any rough running issues, but that might be a good thing to check.
So did you have to put one of your old injectors back in? Bean's going to take care of you on a new one?
He sent me a new one and I waited until it arrived before I went back in. I knew which one to go after and didn't want to bother with anything until it arrived. The warrenty injector is going back today.
I read this post and tried to find that percentages on my predator and couldnt find it, I went to diesel fuel and scrolled all the way down and I dont see them anywhere. Any help?
Kwik, I checked again the
1. cyl reads about 1%
2. 0
3. 0
4. .4%
5. .6%
6. 0
7. 0
8. 3.2%
These readings fluctuate a little while at idle anything above idle they all read 0%.
How bad is this?

Do you have any fuel mods? Or are you still stuck with the crummy Ford design?
Do you have a slight rocking sensation at idle?
I'll wager you could replace #1 and #8 and gain some tangible improvements.

kwik,
No fuel mods, but I was thinking about checking my fuel pressure or just replacing my fuel pump because my MPG has gone down from what it used to be. No rocking at idle, actually it seems to idle fine on the prediator it only showed a difference with the idle RPM of about 5 RPM. I also had the prediator set at 85 HP if that would make a difference. I started just checking things because of my loss of MPG and it seemed to lose a little power from what it used to be but I do have 157,000 miles on the truck.Would replaceing the injectors help the cackle because it seems louder at times. Thanks for the Help. AL
Al, just a thought, but when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? Dirty filters have killed my MPG before. Perhaps it's fresh, but I've forgotten some simple things before. I'd just hate to see you spend money on a fuel pump if it's just a dirty filter.
