trans woes
or rather, i did have the manual trans. the input bearing gave out, and by the time i could stop, the whole transmission casing was smoking.
assuming it cant be rebuilt, what suggestions would you fine folks have for a replacement? i was thinking about the zf 5spd from a HDF250 of the same era, good idea or no? what kind of effect on mileage are we looking at?
mostly the truck will be a daily driver, occasional towing, but nothing heavier than a car hauler trailer. it has the 8.8 rear with 2.73 gears, pretty much stock 2wd.

If you know your clutch is good for awhile - you can leave it intact and just swap the tranny. If you don't know and want to replace it, now is the time.
It's pretty much the same to install a ZF as it would an M5 (I did it).
I bought that 89 and took the drivetrain from it. Took whatever else from it for parts too. Only paid $800 for it and I've got way more than that just in parts (plus i drove it for a year).
You can check other ZF swap threads for more info but it's pretty straight forward.
