351M mounting tips to blockstand?

Got my motor pulled and it's still on the picker. Never mounted one to a blockstand before. Any tips? What size bolts do I need to accomplish this? Seems to be a pain in the neck.

I don't recall the bolt size for the 351M...maybe 1/2" bolts???? Anyway....you took the bolts out to disconnect the trans from the engine block...that's the size...just get the same thread in a bolt long enough to go through the stand mounting brackets and give you 3/4" to 1" engagement with the block. You can get them too long and use washers to get the right length if you need to. I like to use the top two mounting holes and the bottom two. Search the internet and you can probably find some pictures of engines on stands to give you a better idea...it's not hard to do...it may seem a pain because the stands are designed to be adjustable to just about any normal engine size.

Good Luck!

Use Grade Number 8 bolts (They have 5 lines on the head)
Make sure they thread in as far as possible.
Also use large steel washers to take up minimul slack.

Make sure you use a stand that has the capacity for that engine. Big Block stand suggested

one more word of advice, is the engine stand legs are about as wide as the picker legs. This means you can't just wheel the stand in close enough to bolt it on while hanging it on the picker. What I have done to fix this, is I've put a 2x6(may need 2) under one picker leg up by the wheel, to make it sit at a slant, and thus it hangs the engine over just enough to slide the stand in. But, first lower the engine to take the weight off the picker leg. This is the way it is with mine, and may not be a problem with the different types out there.

above suggestions all good, bolt the head piece to the block first then lower the engine down and slide the stand onto the head piece. this is a lot easier than suspending the engine and trying to line every thing up.
