i've heard that the twin I beam front suspension can be easily replaced with an axle/leaf spring set up, making my 1970 2wd F-250 into a 4x4. has anyone here ever done this? is it as easy as it sounds?
I'm not sure about how the front end would bolt up, but it would be a big job to fabricate t-case mounts, shift linkage, front, rear and intermediate drive shafts. The rear axle has blocks on the spring mounts to match the height of the front suspension
You would also need longer brake hoses (these are hard to find!) and I believe the steering drop link is different for a 4wd.
Likely you would have a donor truck to get the parts from, so why not swap your cab and bed onto the 4x frame?
Dittos with Don, Best you find a 4wd and swap your engine and sheet metal ove to it. Since all floor pans are the same from 65 to 79, you might get by with a newer chassis that what you have now. The wheel base changed in 73 so measure twice for the bed.
