91 Ranger A/C amber light not lit no a/c
A few years ago I had the O rings replaced in my A/C. About 5 months ago I checked to make sure it was still working..and it was,however I just tried it yesterday and the A/C button that turns amber when activated (push button) does not come on and no cold air.I checked the A/C switch fuse(10 amp) and found it burned out.But still not light on the switch or cold air. Could it be the switch itself....anyone got suggestions??

This is Ken...yeah I know you're leaving....I'm new today(04-22-06) and was hoping to get some insight to a problem with my 91 Ranger.I had the O rings changed in my A/C and has been working fine.I checked it 5 monthts ago and still working.However I checked it yesterday and the amber light on the switch doesn't come on and neither does the A/C...no cold air.I replaced the 10 amp fuse that was burnt out and thought that was it.Nope.Still no amber light lit up and no cold air. Good to see you did make this its own thread. Anyhow..
I'd check the clutch switch, on my truck it's mounted to the accumulator. Look for a plug. Unplug the plug and jump the plug with a wire and see if the system engages. If it does you've found your problem. My light doesn't come on all the time, but the system always works regardless. That is, when my truck used to start...

So you can't get the plug off? Does it have a tab on top. Usually these kind of plugs have a tab on top, you can push a flat head screwdriver in to push up the tab and slide the plug off. If you can do this then jump the plug, not the relay, with a wire and see if your a/c works. Make sure you turn the a/c on in the cab.

Been redo'n my hard drive on my computer..what a headache..anyway the plug looks like its attached by a threded nut sleve thats white and there is a gromet that the two wires go into.I tried to pull back the groment to see if I can get it off but to no avail. Do I unbolt the attachment that the switch is attached to accumulator and test it that way or what? Confused.

I was finally able to find the tab (that was under the plug..couldn't see it..but felt it) and get it off. I jumped the plug wire and low and behold the A/C clutch kicked in and the A/C is now blowing COLD air. I checked out Autozone and they have the switch fot 17.99. WOW i can't tell thank you enough for the info.
You saved mu boo coo bucks man.THANKS!
