When working on your trucks what tonage rating is your jack. I want to buy a floor jack but the most I can find is a 4 ton thats 800lbs short of what my truck weighs. I understand I wont have all the weight of the truck on the jack at once so would this be safe or no?
For some reason automotive jacks are rated for the vehicle total weight, not for the actual lift.
I have hard time to lift one corner of 3000lb car with 2-tons jack.
Once I used 5-tons HD stand on my motorhome, that has 15-tons total.
Even assuming, that the rear corner is heavier, than 15/4= 4 tons, when I let the hydraulic jack go, the stand split in half with no visible resistance.
They built them with some safety margin, but I am not going under my low-clearance motorhome without putting some 4x12 planks under.
