if I put the axle on top of the springs how do I go about bringing the front down,I have seen lowering I-beams but they are spendy any suggestions would be great thanks guys you have helped me alot with my project,I want it low, loud, and tire burnin fast!!!!
Well, i talked to one guy about lowering the front of my 66, and what he was gonna do was put shorter springs in, and shorter shocks so they wouldn't bottom out. When I told him i was looking for dropped I-beams he said he had never even heard of em!
I did find one kit on ebay from canada and it acually had lowered I beams but it was very expensive,Is putting the axle on top of the spings going to drop it to much, what about driveline angles?
the company i canada gets there kit from springtech (california i think) as far as i know expensive it is a 3/4 drop and its done right and if something fails you have someone to go down with you lol
Try DJM suspesion, the last time I checked it was about $550 for i-beams and flipped shackles, I don't know what just the i-beams will cost. This kit was for 4inch front 6inch rear drop, that is if I remember right. It's been over a year since I looked at this stuff.
The proper method for dropping the front is with the new i-beams. If you put shorter springs and shocks, nothing else is adjustable in the front end, think about what that does to your tires....

Yes, that is why I inquired about the dropped I beams, because I didn't want just shorter springs, I didn't think that would be too good for the truck. It just seems to be more of a "cheap fix".
As previously stated the typical drop is 4 in front and five in back
As i read it you want to drop the front and flip or shackle the back?
Dropped beams are the only way to effectivly lower the front TWIN I Beams. It will reasonably keep the caster and camber within somewhat of a factory spec. Dont ever anticipate (Opinions differ here) using the truck as a truck again. AIM and Dream beams are fabricated units and NOT forged Steel Billet. So wheelies and weight may be a limitation.
Adding shackels to raise the rear of the leaf spring is limited by the bottom of the bed. typically a raised leaf eye will interfere with the bed. Additionally pinion angle will need to be revised as the raising of the rear eye puts the center line of the pinion at a lower position. I true U Joint eater. this will require a C notch as the center of the axle will be raised 1/2 the distance of the added shackle legenth.
An axle over leaf flip will also require a new set of axle pads.(less than 20 bucks from Mopar or summit). this mod requires a notch of the frame, but will maintain the same pinion angle as stock. it adds about 5 inches of drop.

I am currently correcting a bad drop job on the 64 shop truck i am doing complete with cracked frame rails from ethnicaly engineered torch lowering.
The DJM kit I seen had reversed spring hangers for the rear end. When you use those you don't have the clearance problems, right? This is half statement, half question because I'm not sure. This is the same kit I plan on using on my truck. So it would be nice to know if I am thinking wrong(not an unusual thing, too many voices).
I just got off the phone with DJM and for $862.70 you get the lowering I-beams rear shackle kit and four toxic shocks thats pretty resonable for a 4" 5" drop kit with shocks!
