Do these trucks have a blow off valve? The reason I ask is because when the truck shifts it goes pshhh. I did not notice this until like 2 months ago, and now it seems like it does it more often and louder.
It sounds like it is coming from the center of the engine bay.
My truck whoooshes when I shift. That's mainly extra boost pressures rushing out of the airfilter when the engine slows down and reduces the ammount of air intake it needs.
Don't know why it would just show up, unless you did something to the intake.
its my dad's truck. Now that you say that, it had the same air filter he bought it with. After like 30k miles he finally changed it to a K&N. That seems about the same time I started to notice it.
I was asking this because the mpg has gone down hill
the truck is stock

A fresh clean filter should improve fuel mileage. K&N filters allow more air flow that stock and thus the added noise. I would recommend getting rid of the stock air box and installing something else. My choice is the Kwik or 6637 filter. Do a search for specs and instructions. The stock box/ K&N filter combo is bad to allow dust into the intake and turbo and thats not good. As far a the decrease in fuel mileage, something else is causing that. Let us know more about the truck and someone here will help.
I really recommend the 6637 filter. It is easy and inexpensive. You can really hear the air and turbo. And the big plus you will be filtering your air better than anything you put in the stock box.
Get rid of the K&N you are asking for a dusted engine! Go for the Kwik filter mentioned above. The "exhaling" as I call it started happening for me once I put on my intake system as well, but I like it! Listen to the turbo sing and the engine exhaling!
