Hey all I need some help. i am looking to buy a carb for my engine and i found out from help on this site that it is a 1971 Torino 302ci. I have been stumped agin by my engine. the manifold has 4 holes in it. ( thinking it needs a 4 bbl) but i can only find a 2 bbl for the 302 0f my year. please help? is it a newer manifol or what? ps can i get a 2 barrel manifold for this engine? ( too much gass with a four)
thanks for your two cents(or more)
Alec
ps. i found this number on the manifold but don;t knwo what it is....
You can get a 2bbl manifold or you can buy a small 4bbl for your existing manifold. A 390 CFM 4bbl will run your motor, and flows about as much as a medium size Ford 2bbl.
2bbl manifolds should be a dime a dozen for your 302. You will need the PCV plate and good gaskets. You might find the whole set up on a car in a junk yard. Ford 2bbls are easy to rebuild, too.
48 fordster, my 302 is from a 1971 Torino as well. A stock 2bbl manifold, as 85e1 said, should be very inexpensive at a junk yard. Or go for the small 4bbl with your existing manifold. Are you going to buy a new carb or used?
In many cases a small 4-bbl will give better gas mileage than an equivalent 2-bbl. My son had a 72 Maverick 302 with the factory 2-bbl and it was far from economical even after rebuiilding. We put on a small Holley on an Edelbrock aluminum manifold and mileage was close to the same but it was more responsive.
I just bought a 2-bbl carb from "carb exchange" they were vary helpful on the phone told us waht we needed and helped us get it. then we went on and bought a Edelbrock manifold with correct opening for the 2-bbl. thanks for all your help. well post pics later
well i was looking at the heads and they are from a 289 and so is the manifold but the block is a 302 so i think the guy taht i bout it from was mixing a nd matching the 289 parts with the 302 block.
