So my beater has been out of comission for a few weaks now, with a siezed/boken off spark plug, and yesterday I lost first and reverse on my column shift b/c the shift collar broke. I checked it out and all I can see that makes the collar is LMC and Blue oval truck parts. Anybody I'm missing?
The starter is on the way out too I think. Wish I had the time to fix these issues.
NPD didn't have it, though they have a diagram of exactly what I want. I called thier guy and he said that although he had the diagram and a part number, they didn't have that part, it was just to help you figure out what was what. I think he's feeding me a line, but if he dosne't want my buisness, fine with me.
autozone has the starter for our trucks for 45 bucks with a lifetime warranty good at any store. this beats the price NAPA wants for one without a warranty and is only 2 bolts and 1 screw to take off. i replaced the one on my 1980 f250 and the one on my 78 bronco about a month ago and have not had any problems with them since.
You could keep an eye on Ebay for another used column for spare parts, or if you can find the ford part number, you could try www.greensalescompany.com. They have a lot of new old stock Ford parts, but you need the oem part number.
Amish77 I have to agree with tjc transport the floor shifter would be cool and easy but its your truck I cant believe npd did you that way but sometimes you get the new guy or the guy that hates his job and dont give a poo. good luck if all else fails let me know I have some buddies that can find anything and its legal lol
Try www.wildhorses4x4.com. They list that part in their catalog. They are a Bronce parts house but the steering columns in the older broncos would swap with the ones in the older trucks.
Man I like the column shift. It agrees with the two best parts of an old truck.
1.) A manual transmission
2.) a bench seat that lets a sweet thing sit next to ya
With a floor shifter you loose the sweet thing; they get a little squeemish if you have a shift **** where they should be.
ok, I've had a bad experience with auto krafters, but I'm desperate enough to give 'em a second chance, and I'll check out wild horses, never thought of the bronco guys. Thanks a lot guys. and of sourse, anybody else that hasn't been menitoned is news to me.
1) Buy a good one. A cheap one will wear out fast.
2) I miss my 3 on the tree. It was cool and people would freak out when they had never seen one before. I'm 23, so alot of people I know have never seen one before.
