I have a 1999 F250 LD. The recommended spark plugs for the truck is Motorcraft AWSF22E. Our local Autozone claims that AGSF22WM are the same and or are interchangable. Is this true?
try another store. or check p/n on fordpartsonline.com. Also rememeber that ford changed the thread length sometime around 2000, you'll see a large diff. in the thread length. This was to stop the engine from spitting out a plug. What engine do you have? I think the diff in AGS and AWS is the length, but not 100% sure. I have some old plugs in my shop, i could find them and compare...paul BTW...i have found out that you typically can't get the exact plug that was put in at the factory. One side(bank) will have one color painted on top of the plug and the other side will have another color. Was told this was for polarity reasons, (???)being there not dbl platium from the factory.
Ford has changed up their part numbers quite a few times lately.
I believe the AGSF22WM supersedes the AWSF22E but I'd check with your dealer to make sure. You might also want to get a proce from your dealer. They aren't always more expensive.
When I changed my plugs, I got the longer plug... my truck is a 2000. The thread length on the new plug was significantly longer than the old plug. The plugs still only went in so far, so there was no interference problem. I haven't blown a plug out of the head (cross my fingers).
The two requirements that you need to match are the 22... that's the heat range designator... and the thread pitch/taper, identified by the S and the F.
The first 4 letters are the plug family, followed by a heat range designator, then the last letter(s) are more info. A for automobile....The G and W in this area could be a thread length. The last two letters may be center electrode construction type. This information is based on other manufacturers' data, Autolite being the prime source, as they are provider of most of the Motorcraft plugs. However Autolite uses a different identifying system... mainly with numbers, though.
