frame wrapping???

i was wondering what the down side to wrapping the frame on my 85 crewcab sually would be. i know they wrap the frames on low riders to make the frames stronger but ive never heard of it done on a truck to make it stronger. i would think that the concept would be the same.

Same here, never heard of frame wrapping. I have heard of frame boxing. You add metal to the frame to make it a square tube instead of C-channel.

its used a lot in lowriders with hydrolics to strengthen the frames from "hopping" the cars. what they do is weld metal plates over the frames to make them thicker. it keeps the same shape but now has a thicker frame. i know this would add weight to the truck but im not to worried about that im worried about the hitch falling off or a spring mount as the frame is a 85 and has a little rust. i just want peace of mind when towing and i dont have the money to go out and buy a brand new truck.

thanks
tony

You could box the frame. Which is better IMO than wrapping. They probably box and wrap the frame for jumping trucks. It will add a good bit of weight. That is why the new F150 is so heavy with its boxed frame.
