Ok, I love my F250 but like my previous two explorers the paint hasn't held up that great. Why can't ford build a great truck that ALSO has a good paint job? I have rust specks everywhere on the bed(exterior) and doors. You can't see them from five feet away but they still annoy me. Anything I can do about it short of a new paint job which I can't afford? Buffing? Some kind of compound? Body Shop? If anyone has more experience with body work/paint than me (none) and has any info that could help me that would be great! I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
What yr truck ? if still under warranty or low mileage,Ford nows about the rail dust as the poster said above.
Rail dust is from Train transport to the distribution center in your area. Its actually hot metal particals flying up from train wheels and tracks and embedding in the clear coat.
A Clay bar does the trick but can be time consuming in removin all.

Thanks for the input.... my truck is a 02 with 60,000 miles on it so Ford probably wouldn't do anything right? Looks like I'll be going the Clay Bar route.... sounds like it might take some time but it will be worth it. I love my truck! I also have to admit that I had never heard of rail dust before so thanks for the explanation too! I'll let ya know how it turns out.
My truck is white and had the same problems.
I went the clay bar route and it worked like magic, all the little rust specs are gone!
It took a few hrs but the effort was worth it!
