Fuel Pump ?
truck doesnt really cut out but it bogs and stumbles when given throttle under load. Idles like crap, but revs fine in neutral. I tried adjusting the carb and at first it helped, but before I finished tuning, the idle dropped and would not come up. I say fuel pump, sound right?

To rule out the Fuel pump I would get a Fuel pressure gauge. You can get them at most parts stores, and they mount between the pump and carb. But, while I was reading I kept saying to myself sounds likie timing. I could be wrong. I would look in to the distributor as a possible problem. If it is origanl it needs rebuilt no matter what anyway. Even if it isn't the problem. I hope this helps and someone will give more info.

I would start with a ignition tune up. That simple process will eliminaste most crappy running situations. Then move to the fuel system. Are you running points? Are the plugs in good shape? Cap, rotor, wires?
