Hello folks,

Bought a F250 SD 6.0 in Feb 06, LOVE IT!!! Have been around engines quiet a bit. Decided to change the oil @ 2500 miles. Climbed underneath & notice oil around the bell housing, not a lot, but I have a 91 Toyota pickup 4x4 with 289,000 miles on it & not a drop of oil anywhere. I called the dealer they can't take it until sometime next week. I'm thinking main seal, any ideas or suggestions. Needless to say I haven't changed the oil yet.

If you run a search, oil leaks are very common on those 6.0s.

 

my 06 f350 is 1200 miles old and has what sounds like the same leak. Mine goes in next week also. There is a lot of discussion in the 6.0 forum about leaks and what cause them. One of the threads even has a link to a site for Ford Diesel techs that say that it is not always the rear main seal.

I love everything about the truck 'cept the leak. Even with the leak I consider myself a fortunate buyer. The dealership was opened and is still owned by the same family (Since 1927). My wife and I have bought 5 cars from them. (That dang new car smell keeps going away...) My inlaws have bought 4 and her grandparents have bought 6. The salesman is a personal friend. When I called him and told him about the leak he scheduled me an apointment for next week because the guy he considers the #1 diesel tech at their dealership is on vacation this week. The owner of the dealership called me personally, on his own, to tell me he was sorry about the leak and it would be taken care of.

I think the best thing you can do is establish a good relationship with the dealership. They bare the brunt of the storm from consumers, sometimes deservingly and sometimes not. They don't build them they just sell them.
