Remote entry 3 button/4button

Because I have extra, could a 2000 Explorer 3 button remote entry be used with a 2004 Explorer 4 button system? If so I realize that the 3 button would not open the tail gate/window but would lock/unlock the doors.
Would there be any different problems in the programing?

Not afraid to try but am concerned that it might mess up the computer or ???

Oh I was reading that you had some extra 4-button remotes and want to try it on a 3-button system...sorry...

It won't screw up the computer. Just make it the last unit you program the computer to so that if it doesn't work, the others will be programmed and you won't have to go through the sequence again. Make sure that you have all of the remotes you intend to use when you start, cause after you finish that will be all of the remotes you can use until you reprogram your vehicles computer again.

Was worried that it might mess up the electronics some way so now will probably try tomorrow.
