E40D shifts funny

I have a 92 f150 4wd with e4od and when I put it into gear it takes a couple of seconds to move. The fluid level is good and has new rear end and u joints. I get vibration when I slow down for stops and It shifts into 3rd rough when I get on the gas when the trans is warm. any ideas

I agree with quicklook. If this doesn't do the trick, prepare to rebuild it in about 20,000 miles or so. When I bought mine, it took it a minute to engage in gear. Then all of a sudden, she died.

Hard shifting is most likely an electrical problem. Mostly caused by irratic signals from the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) or the PSOM (Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module.) The computer picks up information from both of those sensors, and many others, to determine shift points and line pressure. Increased line pressure will increase the firmness of a shift, and vice versa.

So basically, if the computer loses information from any sensors thats help control the transmission, the transmission will go into "Fail Safe" mode, to prevent wear on the transmission. Believe it or not, those "hard shifts" may feel like it's going to break things inside, but it's actually saving the transmission from wearing much quicker.

My advice is to pull the codes. Generally, if this hard shifting occurs, your OD Off light will blink, indicating a problem. The first step is to pull the codes, even if you don't have a check engine light.
