I am getting rid of my 01 f150, and am getting a PSD, I finally found one with a 6 speed with 96,000 miles on it. I have never driven one before and am wondering if there anything I should look for. I am going to look this weekend and cant wait. Thanks
Is the truck stock? Any after market addons such as gauges?
One thing I would want to check is the turbo. You can pull the intake air hose(4" black hose that runs from filter box to turbo. Look at the fins on the compressor wheel. Fins should be sharp and uniform. Worn and or chipped blades indicate the engine could have been dusted. Comes from bad air filter fit and is very harmful to the engine. With intake off, you can also check for play in bearings on compressor wheel. You shouldn't have much play in or out, up or down. Other things would be ball joints, u-joints and service records. Good luck and sounds like a nice truck. Diesels are very tough engines and 96k is considered low miles. Good luck and after looking the truck over and have any more questions, let us know. You may want to jump over the the forum for 99-03 7.3 diesels if you get the truck and need some advice from the true masters of the 7.3.
The truck is completely stock. I have been looking forever and finally found a 6 speed. I will take a look at the turbo and see. I was just wondering mainly about the engine and tranny I know about the rest. I have never owned a diesel or a newer manual tranny.

The 6 speeds are very tough. The life of a diesel is determined mostly by clean air and clean oil. The turbo is the easiest way to see if it has had clean air. That is if it hasn't been changed. If you had time to have the oil analized would be a major assest. If you could take it to a good diesel mech. and let him take a look at it, He could prolly tell by a quick drive if anything major is wrong. PSDs are very tough and most common problems are fixable. Jump over to the 7.3 forum https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=31 and check out some of the threads there. You can repost you question and get a lot more indepth info from there.
