Good question! I need to mount mine this weekend. I was thinking of hook/loop (velcro) to the knee bolster on the right side. That's where I used to mount in my Explorer(s).
I used the metal plate under the dash at the e-brake. Seemed to be the best place to mount and kept me from having to put velco or holes anywhere it is visible.
I dont have a camera , But I put mine wright above the E-brake and ran the wires through the top of the E-brake Looks great and I dont bump it at all getting in or out
On my 06 XLT I mounted my Prodigy in the little cubby hole under the lighter and cup holder. I had to cut out a small piece in the back plastic for the wiring harness to go through but it looks good and is easily accessable. If you have a Lariat with the console this won't work.

I did the same with my Prodigy. I was going to mount it on the metal bracket like several others mentioned, but it was too hard to reach in an emergency, and I normally drive with my left hand, so having it on the right side is preferable for me.
