Tanning Hides

Anyone know of a way to tan animal hides?

It's a process left up to the professionals but check them out thouroughly before giving them your hides. My Son gave a guy two prime elk hides and the "tanner" "lost" them. My Son threatened him with bodily harm but to no avail. The hides were gone. The hide can be tanned with the hair on or off but worth a fair amount of money........IMO...........

If you read the "Earth Children " series by Jean M. Auel you will find all kinds of ways to tan and treat leather.

I tanned the hide from the first deer I shot. Did it myself and it turned out great. I located a tanner near me and he sold me a kit for like $20, complete with step by step instructions and the chemicals and everything.
