Our '03 Expy had a flat this evening at Subway. Wife was backing up and said it just went flat...she heard it thumping as she pulled forward and stopped in her tracks. I looked around and found nothing that could have caused it. Removed the wheel and could not find a hole anywhere. The expy has 49,xxx miles and appear to be original (could this be???) because the spare matches and has never been used, the scissors jack and accessories were unscratched. They are Continental Contitrac TR P265/70/R17. Looks like they have been rotated regularly, with quite a bit of tread left, and very small checking. The valve stem appeared to look normal?
Do these have a good record on the Expy's? If its a hidden nail, I'll just have them patch it.Quick replys would be appreciated, as I have to get it fixed first thing tomorrow a.m. Looks kinda funky with the black rimmed spare.
What tires should I look for in the future? (Used round town and interstate miles) Is 60,000 miles to much to ask from a new set?
those tires are total crap. if you feel like shelling out the dough for a new set you can achieve large improvements in performance. i've got firestone destination a/t which i'm very happy with, but if you do a search for "tires" you'll find dozens of other suggestions - or just check out tirerack.com
the conti tires are crap. I am suprised you made it to 49k on them. i didn't even make it to 18k on my set. i ended up asking the local dealer if they had any take off tires from F-150 trucks. I ended up with a set of 4 Fx4 rims and BFG rubber for 500.00 so far i have put 33k on them and they have baout 15k left on them. When they go i plan on replacing them with another set of take off tire and wheels.
I have had good luck with the Continentals on my '03. They have about 63,000 miles on them and by the looks of the tread have another 10 or 15,000 on them. I rotate them every 6000 miles and check the pressure regularly. I have only had a couple of flats on this vehicle.
Tire was split down the middle on the inside?! I swear there was no signs of it on the outside.
Decided not to risk it. Ordered a set of four Firestone Destination LE's...always liked getting a new pair of shoes..."hey, look! I can run faster and jump farther with my new shoes!" They had them on in a half hour...the check only took me a minute to write---good bye to my tax refund.
I replaced mine on my F150 at 31,000 miles with Michelin AT tires. I rotated them on a regular basis, and they lasted me until 140,000. The tread was not an issue, just the fact that they were getting slight sun rotting. Not too bad since this is a 1997 truck that sat outside everyday. Probably would have driven further that that even, but did not want to take the chance with the checking.
Have 56k on my contis and still rolling. Will change with another set at 60K. Only had 1 flat due to a nail. Do have some tire whine, but not really bothersome to me
