Has anyboby done this one. I have the tranny in place bolted to the engine. My problem- the shifting linkage. I am using colum from 73 automatic. It looks like things could work but aren't. also my cab mounts are out, is this the problem or part of it?

Robert, I believe the AOD has the same shift pattern as the C4 & C6, so the problem has to be somewhere else.

I am planning on doing the same swap. I actually saw a really nice setup at the nationals for shift linkage I plan to use. It is made by Lokar. It mounts right to the trany and looks like a manual floor shift on the interior. The kit runs around 200.00 but I think it will be well worth it for its simplicity. Check it out at

The AOD has the same shift pattern. Same number of shift positions.

The problem I am having is that when I try to shift from park eveything is in a bind, causing the linkage to pop out of the hole at the colum.

Hmm. Is it binding up in the column?

Does the shift arm on the tranny move easily?

The tranny was just rebuilt by myself, and the shift lever on the tranny moves freely. The shift lever off of the colum works find when nothing is hooked up to it. As soon as I hook up the rod to the tranny I have problems.

I assume you've got column shift arm on the tranny. And, you're not using an extension, or something.

Yea, all I have is one rod that is going from point "A" to point "B". Should there be other linkage. I got the colum from the junk yard and I thought I had gotten all the parts.

What I mean is, there are two different arms or levers used on the AOD. One is for floor shifted, and the other is for column shifted.

I believe there's supposed to be a bellcrank set-up on there. The lingage goes from the column to the bellcrank and then another piece of linkage from the bellcrank to the trans, at least thats what my AOD had before I put a floor shifter in it.
Good Luck !!

sorry............it's long gone.
You should be able to find these pieces in the bone yard, and they probably will have to be modified to fit this truck, as an AOD didn't come along till much later.
Good Luck
