He w guys quick question. My 86 150 will not start. When you turn the key it does nothing, so I replaced the ignition switch and it did not help. I also checked the solinoid for power and power is going to it so it is not bad. Was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem.
i had the same problem about a week ago when i bought my truck. the guy i bought it from said it wouldnt start. i put the charger on it. didnt work. pulled the starter and took it to napa, it tested out fine. put in a new solenoid. still didnt start. and since i pulled the starter and solenoid i cleaned all the connections, cables ect. battery showed 12 + volts( tryed 2 different batterys). it still didnt start.the battery charger even had the 100 amp start on it, and that didnt work. finally i went and pulled the battery out of my lincoln(1000 cca) and it turned over like a champ. i dont know why the other 2 batterys didnt do the trick, they both showed 12 volts and the lights and stuff worked, just not enough to kick the solenoid in i guess. i would make sure it has a really good battery, then take a tester and check for voltage at the starter side of the soleniod when someone is turning the key into the start position for you. if its not get voltage to the starter side try jumping the 2 post with a screw driver and see if that kicks the starter in. if those things dont work and you have cleaned all the connections , pull the starter and have it tested. should take all of about 2 minutes to pull the starter. those are the steps i took, i just wish i would have done them in that order. lol. would have saved me some time.
It could be your clutch safty switch if its stick, or your netrual safty switch. Thats what happend to mine, i bypassed all that (not quite safe-ohwell). Hope you get it fixed soon, the guys on this forum are great and with (little) time they will help fix it!
