On my 89' f250 460 I have this catylitic converter thats about 28" long,
What would be the pro's and con's if i were to remove the muffler and
run a straight 3" pipe out the back? would my large cat act like a
muffler and still be somewhat quiet, or would it be just to darn loud.
From what I've seen, these trucks' mufflers don't do the quieting. The cats do. If you can get away with it, chop off the cat converter. You'll gain more performance and it'll be a little louder. The muffler will still be quieting it down a little.

Have no worries cutting the muffler out of that system. The cats do quite the system down a lot and running a strait pipe back from them actually sounds good.
sounds good, but in my state the liberal state of washington i have to keep my cat on
for another 8 years, now if it wont hurt my emmisions testing, im thinking i might
take the muffler off, anf if its not to ridicously loud.
it won't be obnoxiously loud without the muffler. They still may legally require you to have a muffler, so getting a new one might have to be an option.
