Organise it! With zip-locks...
Do this instead:
Lay out about 6 ziplock bags on your benchtop edge to edge, then lay a strip of masking tape across them all, and make sure it gets attached to the plastic.
You now have a strip of bolt bags, and you can tear them off as needed, and mark them with a felt pen as you drop the bolts from a specific housing or cover, oil pan, or whatever into them.
Without missing a beat...
Store them with the part you took off, and when the time comes to put it all back - you will have just what you need right there with it.
Nothing MORE. Nothing LESS.
-And IDENTIFIED, in case someone decides to root through your garage while your back is turned (hey - we ALL have kids sooner or later)
The ideas are endless for the use of these larger bags...when we go off-roading/camping I put TP in em' to keep our paper dry; small, similar parts like electrical terminals, tape, crimper, etc in one; coffee filters; coiled up rope stays untangled in one; AC extension cords stored in the garage; at christmas time, I put one string of lights in each bag; make your own first aid kits for traveling; put your tent pegs in em' to keep the dirt off the tent when you fold it up and stuff it in the storage bag; paperback books; cameras, film, anything you want to keep dry...the list goes on and on...make up your own!
