Question which heads to use?

well fellas i need your opinion yet again. which heads should i use for my 390 wich will be getting built alot sooner than expected since i got a new job working at a machine shop. but which would be better to use a set of D2 heads or a set of C8 heads i have both. this engine will be going into my 69 f250 4x4 hiboy. so just lemme know what yall think.

If I were to guess, I would use the 68 heads. Probably not a whole lot of difference though, unless you are rebuilding them. If so, make sure they get hardened seats. Stainless valves and stiffer springs if you have a wild cam and can afford a little extra. I had mine rebuilt with the larger CJ428 valves and the sucker sure loves to breathe heavy.

I am sure you will get better advice from the group with numbers to back it up. Just my 2 cents.

both heads are exactly the same, the D2s just had induction hardend seats which after a valve job or two are shot.

Yup, I concur. The heads ARE identical in every aspect.

And if you're doing a REAL valve-job on it, the thin induction-hardened area on the exhaust valve seats will be gone the first time you touch them with a cutter/stone, especially if the heads are high-milage.

I spent the extra $'s to put intake seats in too, but you don't have to if there's enough meat left.

And put in new guides, don't even try to knurl 'em.
