Someone help me out on this ... I swapped 3.55's in for 2.73's on my '91 f150 w/ M50D tranny and now the speedo reads way high. The dealer parts guy says the only way to fix the gearing on the cable is to count the teeth on the existing cable and buy a new gear with more teeth and see what it does. It may strip the gears or maybe not, if it does then I need a new gear for cable and one for inside tranny. Also exact number of teeth can only be figured by trial and error? I told him the numbers on the trans and what the change in diff gears was, but he said it wouldn't help. Is this only KY dealer parts or does this happen other places too? Surely there's a way to know what I need ahead of time...
