Picked up a 53 F100, have installed a 302 w/AOD, TCI Mustang front, TCI rear leaf kit, 9" rear. Chasis is pretty much done. I am now starting to work on the cab. The drivers door is sprung to the point the door does not close, when it was sprung it put a nasty vertical crease/dent in the cowl. I looking for anyone that his hints-suggestions on how to repair this. I tend to think that the door jam is actually twisted. I am not sure pounding out the crease in the cowl will resolve the door not closing.
Thank you in advance.
I am assuming you loosened the hinge bolts and have slid the door as much as it will go.
After this I would bolt the body back on the frame without the door, and try to find something large that will not move, like some trees or another vehicle to hook a come-along to. Get on the bent side with the come-along and whatever else it takes, and start pulling on the door jamb. You may have to make up a plate with a hook welded on it, and bolt it to the door jamb where the door originally bolted. And then hook the come-along to the plate and start pulling on it. With sheetmetal you usually have to pull it farther than it needs to be because it will spring back a little bit.
You can also use a port a power to jack the side out - if it really needs that. I would find out what is wrong before I started. Measure accross the doors at several points and compair to a known good cab.
