f150 bad compressor

My factory a/c compressor broke 4 years ago and a aftermarket one was installed. It worked for a short period of time and then broke. A replacement was again put on (for free) and it didn't even last a day. At the time I was told I would have to replace all the lines condensor drier and compressor in order to make sure it would work. The compressor and drier I understand but he said because of the compressor failure the small pieces of metal are stuck in the lines and condersor. Is this true? and if so where could I find the lines and cheaper than at dealership. Thanks Bill

Ouch! Having metal in the system is not good. A quick search on Google can provide you with several sites with good prices.

Ouch. You've got the classic "black death" from the first failed compresor. The condenser is most likely plugged. It's usually best to do a "firewall foreword" replacement to prevent future problems. The evaporator is probably ok. You can use the parts from a donor vehicle with a known good system to save cost, just use a new accumulator.
