88 Efi 351w Timing

I have my timing set at the factory recommended 10 degrees, I'd like to set it to 12. However, I know that when the SPOUT connector is hooked up, the computer takes over anyhow. Is there a way around this?

unhook the spout connector, set the timing to 12* then reconnect the spout with motor off and start back up. Done! unhooking the spout is similar to unhooking the vacum advance on older carbed setups.

Thanks, I've heard this can improve performance and fuel economy, I guess we'll see. . . or maybe we won't see.
