Steering issues

Ok so I was getting a load of gravel (still lovin the 6" Pro-comp
springs) and after I was done unloading it I noticed my power steering
was in and out. If you've ever had air in your system you know
what I mean it'll there one minute then the next no power steering at all.

I replaced the pump and checked for leaks but it's still doing it...just
not as bad as before. What could possibly cause this?

why did you replace the pump, did you bleed the system after you replaced it? have you check for leaks in your hoses or connections to the pump
??

what type of fluid do u use?

make DARN sure you didn't let any dirt or grit get on the fitting where the brake tube connects to the box! i hate to admit it but i did that once and had the exact same issue.

actually if you look at the warrenties for new PS boxes and pumps they say the warrenty is void unless a filter is put on the return line.

It was strange all I was doing was backing into my field to dump some
gravel then I go to move my truck and the power steering is in and out.
I replaced the pump because I figured that was the problem. I do not
see any leaks my lines are dry and so are the fittings. To bleed the system
all you have to do is turn the wheels all the way to the left and right
slightly hitting the stops a couple times until no more air bubbles up I did that.
But I don't seem to have stops anymore. ever since I lifted the truck
and did the crossover steering. As far as fluid goes I had some
NAPA power steering fluid sitting around so I used that.

I'll check the two hoses tonight and fittings to make sure again there
are no leaks. Then maybe I'll lift the front of the truck and crank the
wheels a couple times. I'm not sure what else to do.

I know when i replaced my ps box in the ranger/77 F150, it kept coming up with air for several times and took a week to get it all out.

Just for kicks, you might consider replacing the return (low pressure) line. If it's shot, it can collapse and restrict flow back in to the pump.
